About my work
I believe in empowering clients to maximize their strengths and I work with them to change their lives for the better. Many of my clients are struggling with relationship problems, anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, stress, health concerns, major life transitions, and concerns about drug and alcohol use or other compulsive habits.
I am often asked what kind of therapy I practice. After many years of experience I draw freely from a variety of techniques to suit the particular client. I am a Certified Internal Family Systems therapist and I have advanced training in Couple Therapy, Addictions, and Trauma.
Internal Family Systems Therapy, as developed by Richard Schwartz, PhD is an experiential, non-pathologizing model of therapy that gently and respectfully allows clients to explore their inner lives. The basic assumption of the model is that every human being, regardless of circumstance or trauma, possesses, at their core an untarnished Self from which flows a never-ending resource of love and self-compassion. IFS therapy helps clients understand themselves more deeply, unburden negative beliefs about themselves, and access their internal resource of Self, experiencing great shifts in well-being.
My clients find IFS is particularly helpful with a wide variety of issues. In addition, people coping with compulsive behaviors and addictions find it opens a door of healing not previously considered, yet it complements 12 step programs very well.
